In 2015, Donald Trump was musing the possibility of running for President of the United States. In April, he posted a tweet supposedly quoting a fan who suggests he announce his presidential bid on Flag Day.

On Twitter, Trump frequently mentions the fact he was born on Flag Day.

The Twitter account he quotes has been cleansed and contains only one remaining tweet, and it wasn’t that, but I was able to find Trump’s reply by scouring Trump’s own Twitter archives. The account also supposedly belongs to a “Joel Miller”, which sounds awfully similar to the “John Miller” persona that Trump used for years to portray himself as his own publicity manager.

Previously, the account @TalkerNewYorker belonged to someone named “Katie”, a frequent poster and publicist.

So apparently Donald Trump invented the tweet, creating a fake fan response suggesting he launch on Flag Day (his birthday), and then responded to himself.

Currently, President Trump is creating controversy by using an Alabama stump speech to object to NFL players kneeling during the national anthem. He also objected to NFL safety rules meant to protect players from irreparable harm. The President referred to players as “sons of bitches” and demanded that the NFL or team owners fire the players. The NFL itself is a federal nonprofit; but 31 of the 32 teams are privately owned franchises. (Green Bay Packers are publicly owned.)

The President and Vice President are exempted from the Rules of Conduct set forth by the Office of Government Ethics. Cabinet members and top level aides, however, are not exempt from these rules; this may put Administration aides in a vulnerable position if they must defend the President’s statements.

In late 2016, President-Elect Trump also objected to protestors allegedly burning American flags. However, he also threatened them with loss of citizenship or a year in jail. Both options are un-Constitutional.
